South Tyneside Family Hubs once again demonstrated its support to the importance of breastfeeding, shining a light on the ongoing support women and babies have throughout the borough.

We welcomed more than 100 breastfeeding mothers and their children to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week 2025.

Our ‘Breastival’ events visited Hebburn Family Hub and Riverside Family Hub – from Tiny Tweeties and face painting to a free hand massage and raffle, there was something for everyone.

We spoke with parents after Breastival to get their thoughts on the events. “A massive thank you for organising this fabulous event. I’m super grateful for all the support we get and feel very lucky to live in South Tyneside to get access to this”, said Erin.

Another parent added: Breastfeeding makes such a special bond with your baby. I would always encourage others because there is so much support from the Hubs.”

“Thank you so much for everything you do! Our favourite group and bunch of people. Will forever recommend! Incredible event for mums and their babies”, commented one parent.

Angel, Mazikeen & Amieia said: “I have been coming to Breastival for a few years now and it’s always amazing.”

“We always feel so supported by you all in our breastfeeding journey”, noted Sarah and Phoebe when asked about their thoughts on the breastfeeding support available in South Tyneside.

“Breastfeeding makes such a special bond with your baby. I would always encourage others because there is so much support from the Hubs,” echoed one parent.

Helen Mitchell, Family Hubs Partnership Manager believes they’re many benefits to breastfeeding, for both parent and baby. “Breastfeeding delivers a hopeful future not only for children, but for societies. It reduces healthcare costs, boosts cognitive development, strengthens economies, and sets children up with healthy beginnings.

“Our Breastival events are a great opportunity to promote our infant feeding offer further and showcase the support breastfeeding mams have in South Tyneside.”

Thank you to all our families, partners and staff who supported this event.
