Your Child’s Journey Starts at Home
All children develop at their own pace, and every child’s journey into school will look slightly different. Before starting Reception, there are some simple skills that can really help children feel more confident and independent, such as getting dressed, using the toilet, communicating their needs, and playing with others.
There are lots of fun and practical ways you can support your child at home. The Starting Reception guide offers helpful tips and ideas to build these skills and prepare your child for school. You can access this online or pick up a copy at your local Family Hub.
Supporting Emotional Wellbeing
Transitions can feel big for little people. Helping your child to understand and talk about their feelings can make a huge difference.
Families in South Tyneside can access Togetherness, a free resource funded by Best Start Family Hubs. It includes videos, advice, and easy-to-follow guidance to support your child’s emotional wellbeing as they move into school. Once registered, you’ll have lifelong access to these helpful tools.
